Las Vegas (half) Marathon

It’s official: the 2006 New Las Vegas Marathon will also feature a half-marathon. Read about it here:

Last December, the inaugural New Las Vegas Marathon attracted participants from all 50 states and more than 30 nations and captured the attention of USA Today, Time Magazine, Sports Illustrated and Runner’s World. Organizers today announced the addition of a Half Marathon to this year’s race set for December 10. Both the Marathon and Half Marathon will start pre-dawn with fireworks in front of Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino and run through the entire neon corridor of the world famous Las Vegas Strip.

The nearly 11,000 people who ran the first New Las Vegas Marathon experienced the excitement of the running Elvi, the world’s only Run Thru Wedding Chapel and the best excuse to spend several days in the world’s # 1 tourist destination. With the added excitement of a Half Marathon this year, the New Las Vegas Marathon is on a fast track to become the top destination race in the world.

With caps of 15,000 for the Marathon and 10,000 for the Half, we highly encourage you to register today and book your hotel rooms at www.lvmarathon.com. Everyone who registers before June 1, 2006 at noon (PST) will be entered into a drawing for roundtrip air travel to the race. Nevada residents will be entered into a separate drawing for a two-night race week stay at official Host Hotel Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino.

New Las Vegas Marathon

I’m guessing that this will lead to a pretty dramatic increase in the number of runners, because 13.1 miles is a whole lot easier than 26.2. If you live in Las Vegas and want to train, definitely consider the Road Runners program. It’s a lot of fun. Well, about as much fun as running at 6 in the morning can be.
