Gambling-free week

Between working on Roll the Bones, writing four articles a month, and doing all sorts of other peer review things (plus living in Las Vegas), I’ve really had my fill of gambling. So yesterday I decided a little vacation of sorts was in order. Of course, I’m not about to quit my job (which I really like) as the director of the Center for Gaming Research just because I’m a little burned out, and I’m genuinely enthused about two projects I have going on there–getting the gaming.unlv.edu relaunch ready, and editing a collection of British texts on gambling. But I think that taking the week off from posting about gambling might be just what the doctor ordered.

Then, of course, Pinnacle has to go and acquire Aztar, which owns the Tropicanas. But I figure just mentioning it isn’t really posting about it.

Let’s see how successful I am.

There was a good omen this morning, though: I got an email letting me know that there is a new Elif Shafak book (or at least an English translation of it) coming out soon, and I’ll be getting a review copy. So look for a review really soon.
