I stopped by the Sands garage sale yesterday, and it was about what you’d expect the latter stages of a casino garage sale to be: depressing.
There really wasn’t anything good left, and the former casino floor, without all the blinking slot machines, just looked cavernous and even gloomy. There were still a few matresses left, along with lamps (minus shades), and an assortment of furnishings. I would have tried to get a piece of the carpet, but it looked so dingy and filthy that I didn’t see the point.
Whatever Pinnacle puts in its place would have to be a big improvement.
On the positive side of the ledger, construction at Harrah’s, Borgata, and the Taj is continuing. Speaking of the Taj, I stopped by to take a look at the renovations, and it’s hard to describe. The casino carpet (one of the first things I look at) is disappointing: I think the carpet upstairs on the CF level would have been a much, much better choice for the casino. Spice Road, the renovated atrium and garage-walk section of the CF level, is about what you’d expect, which isn’t bad. I’ll have to see how they integrate the new tower into the resort to see how well it all works.
