I don’t usually post music reviews, and I haven’t seen this group yet, but this could be interesting. It showed up in my inbox courtesy of the Las Vegas Hilton’s Hotsheet:
Imagine sipping champagne in Tempo, the Las Vegas Hilton’s high-energy lounge, and beautiful women playing strings walk by your table. This is not a dream. This is Phat Strad, a unique international group of classically trained women who perform rock music arranged for a string quartet, playing futuristic electronic instruments, with an industrial strength techno drum groove. Definitely unique. Hours: Wednesdays-Saturdays, 6:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m.
This could go two ways: if it’s Def Leppard and Aerosmith songs played over an amplified fiddle, it would be ‘eh.’ But if we’re talking Black Sabbath’s “Into the Void” on theremin and cello, I’m there every night. I checked out the Phat Strad website, and am curious enough to head down to the Hilton, maybe after the big book launch event. You just don’t see enough theremin today, as far as I’m concerned:
If the video doesn’t load, check out this BBC theremin clip or Dr. Samuel Hoffman’s stylings.
